个人简介

Dr. Michael Beyak is an Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine. After clinical training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the University of Toronto, he pursued research fellowships at Queen's and the University of Sheffield. He joined the faculty at Queen's in 2006. Dr. Beyak is a clinican scientist, and one of the Principal Investigators in the Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Unit (GIDRU). His research interests lie in the area of signaling between the gut and brain via gastrointestinal sensory nerves, and is studying the roles of these sensory nerves in 1) satiety signaling in conditions such as obesity (where these nerves appear to be underactive) and 2) visceral pain (where gut pain sensing nerves are overactive). He runs an active, CIHR funded basic science lab, and supervises trainees at the undergraduate, graduate and post doctoral levels. Dr. Beyak's clinical interests are in the treatment of complicated inflammatory bowel disease as well as motility and functional disorders of the GI tract. Despite his focused areas of interest both clinically and academically, he maintains a keen interest in the training of core medicine residents and is one of the teaching attending physicians on the general medicine CTUs.
