个人简介
Dr. Flavin is interested in clinical studies which apply new basic science findings to neurodevelopmental impairment stemming from fetal and neonatal events such as brain inflammation, ischemia, and glucose deprivation.
研究领域
In some children with cerebral palsy there is evidence of peri-natal exposure to a pro-inflammatory state. Dr. Flavin is interested in the role of glial cells in ischemic and pro-inflammatory settings during early brain development. There are two current studies: a search for suitable inhibitors of microglial activation and an examination of the role of fever in fetal brain damage after a pro-inflammatory stimulus. He uses cell culture and in vivo systems.
Sources of Research Funds: Dr. Flavin is funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation for the cell interactions and tPA studies. The oligodendrocyte studies are locally funded
