研究领域

The ultimate goal is the development of products and manufacturing processes of technological importance in the areas of Advanced Materials, related to applications in Nanotechnology and Biomaterials. The research program follows two main directions: Development of methodologies and process design tools for the synthesis of advanced materials through non-uniform electric field-directed organization of nanometre-sized particles into well-defined one-, and multi-dimensional structures, with prescribed length scales and composition. Implementation of novel concepts for surface-engineering design and performance assessment of biocompatible materials, as well as systematic studies of the interactions between blood components (such as proteins) and the latter.

The research interests of Dr. Docoslis lie in the fields of Colloid Science and Interfacial Engineering and are centered toward the understanding, exploitation, and modulation of colloidal interactions that occur between nanoscopic materials (nanoparticles, macromolecules) in solution or at interfaces. Specific interests include self- and directed assembly of colloidal systems into multi-dimensional structures that combine functionality and long-range order. Synthesis of functional structures with nanometre-scale order; Nanotechnology Electrically conducting polymer nano-composites Development of methods for rapid, in situ detection of virus in surface-based biosensors Surface and material characterization using Raman micro-spectroscopy Colloidal interactions and self-assembly in aqueous and organic media Kinetics and thermodynamics of biopolymer adsorption Fabrication of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) Development of surface-engineered biocompatible materials
