个人简介

Professor Michael Rees was jointly appointed by Bangor University and the NHS Trust as a Professor in 2005, Michael is currently the Professor of Cardiovascular Studies. Michael was appointed a Consultant Cardioradiologist in Leeds in 1984 after 2 years in the United states as a Fellow/Associate in the University of Iowa and a Research Associate in the Deborah Heart and Lung Centre in New Jersey. Michael then spent 9 years successfully building a clinical and research environment in cardiovascular disease with an emphasis on cardiac imaging and intervention in Leeds becoming a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leeds. Michael was appointed as a consulting Professor at Stanford University, California in 1993. Michael has been Professor of Radiological Sciences at Keele University (1993-95) and a Professor of Clinical Radiology at Bristol University (1995-2005). Michael was awarded his PhD by the University of Ioannina (Greece), where is a visiting Professor in Internal Medicine to the Department of Cardiology. Michael's clinical specialty is cardiovascular disease, he was the first consultant in North Wales to offer a coronary angioplasty service and he holds a CCT in Nuclear Medicine and Radiology having built up a cardiac imaging service in North Wales. Currently President of the European Society of Cardiac Radiology (ESCR), Michael has been instrumental in the Society’s development over the last decade. The ESCR sets out the education and training requirements for Cardiac Radiology in Europe. For the last 5 years, Michael has been elected Chair of the BMA Academic Staff Committee. Michael was awarded the BMA Medal for services to academic medicine. He sits on the Clinical Academic Careers Panel and has acted as lead for the introduction of clinical academic training in Wales. Michael is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a founder member of the Academy of Medical Educators. Other positions held have included membership of the NIHR Faculty Implementation Committee, assessor for the QAA and a member of the General Medical Council. He is currently a member of the UK HEAC and HENSE.
