Dr John Harvey came to Wales in 1993 to work with the University of Wales College of Medicine and North Wales Health Authority on the development of a medical academic unit in North Wales. Following the absorption of UWCM into Cardiff University Dr Harvey transferred to Bangor University in 2011. Dr Harvey is based in Wrexham and currently heads a research group of 10. Studies have been mainly in the areas of diabetes health psychology, diabetes epidemiology and diabetic complications particularly nephropathy. The lab team have been working on control of tropomyosin gene expression and its relationship to insulin, glucose and diabetes. John Harvey has published more than 80 papers. Dr Harvey’s clinical work includes general medicine and all aspects of diabetes together with provision of a specialist service for people on insulin pumps and all areas of endocrinology. Dr Harvey was Clinical Director for Medicine in Wrexham from 2003 to 2011 and has been a visiting professor at Glyndwr University since 2011. 2009: The Diabetes Research Network, Wales 2010-15 (coapplicant). This study will be carried out in Cardiff (Prof DR Owens, lead applicant), Swansea (Prof S Bain) and Wrexham (Dr J Harvey) from 2010-12. European Federation for the Study of Diabetes 499,992euros.
