Paul was born in Cardiff and has spent all of his life there. He worked as an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust for the past 33 years and took up the post of Senior Lecturer with us in August 2015. Before this, Paul studied on the BSc degree programme of Pre-Hospital Care at Swansea University in 1999. He also completed the PGCE at UWIC in Cardiff. Along with these two qualifications, Paul completed his MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Glamorgan in 2009. Paul has also been a NAEMT PHTLS instructor since 1996.
Paul Burrows is involved with managing and supporting the Paramedic Science students throughout the 2 year diploma. He is also a part of the process that the College wishes to improve upon this diploma and take it to degree level by 2019. He also supports students through a variety of lectures and practical skills sessions that the students require for them to perform to their scope of practice.
Pre-Hospital Care, Cervical spine immobilisation, thrombolysis and hospital avoidance are Paul's main areas of research.
He is also involved with examining on external programmes such as the MSc in Sports Exercise Medicine at Bath University, the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at Swansea University and the University of South Wales.
Paul enjoys outdoor activities like walking the dogs and camping. He is also currently learning to play the guitar.
