个人简介

Raechelle completed her BSc (Honours) in Chemistry and Biology at the University of Toronto. She then went on to undertake a Masters in Organic Chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University. This was followed by by a short break in academia, during which time she obtained industrial experience as a research chemist at a contract research company (TDA Research, Inc., Golden, CO, USA). She subsequently came to the UK to obtain her PhD in Biomaterials. Her dissertation was on the surface modification of medically relevant polymers for increased biocompatibility at the University of Ulster. She went on to carry out postdoctoral research focusing on the study of mammalian and bacterial cells with surfaces structured at the nanometer scale. She joined the University of Liverpool as a lecturer in July 2013. 研究领域

Raechelle joined the University of Liverpool in July 2013. Her field of expertise is in Biointerface Engineering. A key theme of her research career to date has been to design biomimetic interfaces for both fundamental science and medical device applications. Her research involves incorporating engineering, materials and analytical chemistry to create novel interfaces capable controlling biological response. Specifically, research has focused surface modification of polymers using plasma treatment, plasma polymerisation and grafting of polymers (polysaccharides, polyethylene glycol (PEG)) to create protein, cell and bacterial resistant surfaces. Furthermore she has used extremely sensitive surface analytical techniques (XPS and ToF-SIMS) to understand the role of surface chemistry in biointerfacial science.
