个人简介

Richard Ngomba is a Senior Lecturer in School of Pharmacy in College of Science. He graduated from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Perugia, Italy, in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies in 1996. He then obtained a PharmD equivalent qualification as a Pharmacist in the same university . Richard subsequently obtained a PhD from the University “G. D’Annunzio”, Chieti, Italy, in 2001. Before joining the University of Lincoln, he was working at IRCCS Neuromed Neurological Institute, Italy, specialising in specific areas of neuroscience and pharmacology. He has been Honorary Research Associate at UCL’s Institute of Ophthalmology - Visual Neuroscience, and visiting researcher and lecturer at the University of Lille 1, France. He has conducted extensive investigations into the science behind neurological conditions such as epilepsy and stroke, and has led studies into a condition called ‘absence epilepsy’ in children, which is less well-known than other types of epilepsy in which the sufferer experiences convulsions. Because the condition is more difficult to spot, it often goes undetected for long. In the last decade, Richard has been working on rodent models of absence epilepsy in collaboration with colleagues from Donders Institute, University of Nijmegen, Netherlands. He has been a visiting instructor at Stanford University Medical Center, where he further developed his understanding of the cortico-thalamo-cortical network (the principal anatomical structure for the development of absence epilepsy) by employing in vitro electrophysiology models. Richard is specialized in studying neuroscience at the cellular level, and at Lincoln he will continue his intricate work to scrutinize the causes and triggers of specific neurological conditions. His research examines the properties of cells with mutated genes and how the mutations are involved in epilepsy, stroke and psychiatric disorders. Despite his focus on basic and translational research, Richard maintains his commitment to patient care by practicing at out-patient pharmacies around Lincolnshire on a weekly basis.
