Fabrizio ‘Fabs’ Ortu hails from Sassari (Sardinia, IT). Fabs studied Chemistry at the University of Sassari, where he obtained his Laurea Magistrale (MRes equivalent) in 2009. He moved to Nottingham in 2010 for his PhD studies, where he worked under the supervision of Prof. Deborah Kays on s-block coordination chemistry. Soon after completing his PhD in 2014, he moved to Manchester to work under the supervision of Prof. David Mills (and many other PIs!), covering a wide range of topics in lanthanide and actinide chemistry. In June 2019, Fabs joined the School of Chemistry at the University of Leicester as a Lecturer and in 2023 was promoted to Associate Professor. 研究领域

Our main research focus is on organometallic and coordination chemistry of s- and f-block metals. Together with improving our fundamental understanding of these elements, we are interested in their application in small molecule activation, C-H activation, sustainable synthesis and catalysis. All our compounds are synthesised using advanced Schlenk line and glovebox techniques. We then perform comprehensive characterisations of our compounds using a variety of spectroscopic and analytical techniques e.g. single crystal X-ray crystallography, multinuclear NMR, UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy, EPR, cyclic voltammetry.
