Comment: In this work, we strategically designed geometrically twisted freestanding BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 thin film architectures, which show giant recoverable deformation over 10% along their longitudinal direction, far exceeding the maximum recoverable strain (usually <1%) in ferroelectric bulk materials or thin films clamped onto a substrate. This is the first time that the concept of topological engineering has been introduced to freestanding ferroelectric thin films to amplify the domain-switching-induced strain to achieve a large deformation at a “macroscopic” architecture level. As a corresponding author, I conceived the idea, led this research, guided the writing of the paper, and revised it significantly with the students and our collaborators.

Comment: In this work, we developed free-standing flexible BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 epitaxial bilayer thin films with giant elastic strain (~4 %) and large magnetoelectric coupling owing to the diminished substrate clamping. We also have demonstrated the successful integration of magnetoelectric nanostructures onto a flexible polydimethylsiloxane substrate. By stretching the substrate, magnetoelectric coupling coefficients could be tuned reversibly, which has never been realized before. As a corresponding author, I conceived the idea, led this research, guided the writing of the paper, and revised it significantly with the students.

Comment: In this paper, we proposed a biodegradable micro robotic platform that is able to transport cells in a targeted and precise way, while creating an electrically stimulated microenvironment to favor their differentiation. This work presents a unique concept that could inspire minimally invasive cell therapies for the treatment of neuronal injury or diseases. As a corresponding author and co-first author, I conceived the idea and led this work independently. I also contributed to the structural characterization of the microrobots, and guided the writing of the paper, and revised it significantly with the students.

Comment: In this paper, we developed a magnetoelectric scaffold that can speed up the cell growth rate for the bone-healing process. Comment: In this work, by integrating magnetoelectric materials, I developed a prototype that can be powered by a single energy source (magnetic energy) for both locomotion and on-demand function triggering, to enlighten the concept of highly-integrated micromachines with a simplified manipulation system. This concept not only presents a step in the development of micromachines but also opens new avenues for the application of magnetoelectric materials. I conceived the idea, organized the work, conducted all the experiments (PVD sputtering of the materials, morphological and magnetoelectric property characterization, locomotion study) in collaboration with my colleagues, and wrote the paper.
