个人简介

研究领域

Surface Plasmonic Optics - Surface plasmon polaritons, as the precise term would be, constitute an excitation where an electromagnetic field is coupled to the density oscillations of the conduction electrons in a metal. They share properties of the electromagnetic field as well as from the plasmon. Basically, localized and propagating surface plasmon polaritons can be distinguished. They are either sustained at isolated metallic nanostructures or at the extended interface between a metal and a dielectric, respectively. They allow to localize energy in spatial domains much smaller than the optical wavelength, they sustain huge electromagnetic fields, and they sustain a resonant response usually in a narrow frequency domain. They are the ideal means to mediate light between a macroscopic and a nanoscopic world. We focus on the microscopic quantum structure of plasmonic oscillations and the non-equilibrium electron distributions in optically drivenconfined systems. Through carefully designed nanostructures, it would find potential applications in precise control of light polarization, phase, spatial spectrum, chirality and so on. PT Symmetric Optics and Solitons - The PT-symmetric potentials in quantum mechanics are essentially complex potentials which however exhibit a purely real spectrum of energies, with the implication that their time-dependent eigenfunctions show no decay or growth. In an interesting turn of events, it was realized recently that there is a class of optical systems where dissipative solitons arise in continuous families. These systems consist of elements with gain and loss arranged in a particular symmetric way, The symmetry here can be interpreted as an optics equivalent of the PT (parity-time) symmetry in quantum mechanics. We focus on the intriguing interactions of light and PT-symmetric systems such as coupled waveguide arrays, optical lattices, resonant cavities and so on, as well as their potential applications in optical sensors, switchers, filters, iosolators.
