Our group is primarily interested in the autophagic pathway. This pathway is essential to keep cells and whole organisms healthy, by protecting them from infections and removing the damaged proteins and organelles responsible for ageing and many neurodegenerative diseases. Our aims are to both understand the basic molecular events underlying autophagosome formation and regulation, as well as how autophagy is integrated into the larger cellular machinery.
