个人简介

Nach seinem Physikstudium an der LMU München promovierte Prof. Barth in Physikalischer Chemie bei Prof. G. Ertl am Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in Berlin (1992). Danach war er IBM Postdoctoral Fellow am IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, USA. Er vertiefte seine Arbeiten über einen Zeitraum von mehr als zehn Jahren an der École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Schweiz, wo er auch 1999 habilitiert wurde. Vor seiner Ernennung zum Ordinarius an der TUM im Jahr 2007 forschte und lehrte er als Canada Research Chair und Professor of Physics & Chemistry an der University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Kanada, wo er bis 2012 als Adjunct Professor nominiert war. Die Forschungsaktivitäten von Prof. Barth (*1962) konzentrieren sich auf das fundamentale Verständnis von Phänomenen an Grenzflächen sowie dem Design funktioneller niedrig-dimensionaler Nanostrukturen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der Kontrolle komplexer Moleküle sowie hochorganisierter supramolekularer Architekturen auf der atomaren Skala, deren funktionelle Eigenschaften für viele Anwendungen relevant sind.
