研究领域
Rebecca's scientific interests lie in the study of protein behaviour, and in linking their structural features to functional properties. Most recently, her research has focused on the lipid (cell membrane) binding behaviour of antimicrobial and anticancer peptides and proteins.
Within the area of food security, Rebecca's recent research has focused on seed defence proteins and peptides, particularly the functional properties of puroindolines and purothionins. These proteins also have potential, with antifungal and antimicrobial activity, pharmaceutically. From the point of view of lipid biophysics, her research has focused on defining the role of different lipid constituents within biological membranes and how these provide potential binding sites for polymers, peptides and proteins.
Rebecca also has broader research interests in the areas of biomaterials and biophysical chemistry, and works on a number of related projects, including protein-polyphenol interactions, formulation solutions for poorly-water soluble drugs and polymer binding to lipid surfaces in advanced drug delivery. Her research regularly utilises STFC and other central facilities; neutron (ISIS, ILL) and X-ray (Diamond) reflectivity and scattering methods.
