研究领域
Molecular basis of the pathogenicity of bacterial pathogens. Molecular detection and typing systems for bacterial pathogens particularly with repect to the fish pathogen Renibacterium salmoninarum (Bacterial Kidney Disease), the human and animal pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei (Mellioidosis) and the food poisoning agent Vibrio parahaemolyticus. More recent work has focused on the possible involvement of microbes in the development of human forms of diabetes. In particular:
1) The association Burkholderia cepacia group organisms with the development of diabetes in cystic fibrosis patients, and
2) The possibility that Escherichia coli antigens show cross reactivity with human insulin producing beta-pancreatic cells, leading to possible autoimmune disease.
