Evaluation of Immersive Simulation as training tool for Healthcare workers in West Africa – Principle investigator and Lead for evaluation
Immersive Simulation modules developed as collaborative project between Mentor, Masanga UK and Peninsula Medical School. Grant recently awarded by Mentor and Telegraph Charities Appeal. Evaluation will involve assessment of knowledge, skills and confidence gained for use of Personal Protective Equipment plus challenges of successful implementation in West Africa. Pilot sites also being identified in UK and US for in depth analysis of learner engagement, recall and retention of immerse learning format compared to traditional methods.

Systematic review of the National licensing exam literature – co-investigator
Awarded General Medical Council grant to perform a systematic review of evidence for reliability and validity of national licensing medical examinations in the international literature. This will help to inform GMC policy for further development of National licensing examinations in the UK.

Development and evaluation of the Multiple Mini Interview for selection of undergraduate nursing students – co-investigator
Established collaboration with Queens University Belfast, to use methodology developed in Plymouth to develop and evaluate innovative method for selection of nursing students.

Transforming Undergraduate Learning with Interprofessional Simulation – Project Lead
Awarded £56,550 through Teaching Development Grant with the Higher Education Academy. Joint project with Faculty of Health at Plymouth University to develop evidence based debriefing methods for team based simulation for final year medical and nursing students. 136 students recruited to study. Methods adopted in 4 neighbouring institutions.

NIHR portfolio study to evaluate predictive validity of selection centre scores of applicants to anaesthesia training with subsequent success in professional examinations – Principal investigator
