I am continuing research into the human pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae. My work includes analysis of sequence data of pneumococcal isolates grown in biofilms with a view to understanding exchanges of genetic material. Previous research includes epidemiological analysis of invasive pneumococcal disease, the impact of vaccines on incidence and bacterial carriage in the nasopharynx of children in day-care centres in Portugal.
