TRP Channels
I am interested in the Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) cation channels TRPA1, TRPV1, TRPV3 and TRPM8 (TRP ankyrin-1, vanilloid-1, vanilloid-3 and melastatin-8) and their roles in respiratory diseases. These ion channels detect noxious stimuli both chemical and physical and are involved in inflammation, pain and cough.
PAR Receptors
Proteinase-activated receptors (PARs) are a novel family of G-protein coupled receptors activated by proteolytic cleavage of their receptor N-terminus primarily by serine proteinases. The cleavage of the N-terminus results in the exposure of what is termed a "tethered ligand" which subsequently binds to and activates the receptor. We are interested in the molecular pharmacology of the PARs and their role in disease as well as the role that post-translational modifications exert on this receptor family.
