个人简介

I am an established academic with a background in analytical chemistry. After my PhD studies, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Leeds. Since then, I have had 13 years experience of university teaching, which has been gained in the UK and overseas. I was a Lecturer and then an Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman. Upon my return to the UK, I became a Teaching Fellow at the University of Hull. I have 30 publications and I am on the editorial board of the Research Journal of Chemistry and Environment. I am a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and have Chartered Chemist status.

研究领域

Chemical Process Technology

The common theme throughout my research career has been the use of analytical chemistry to solve challenging environmental problems. As a PhD student and a postdoctoral researcher, I studied supercritical fluids and their applications in analytical chemistry. Supercritical fluid carbon dioxide is, generally, less harmful to the environment than the organic solvents traditionally used in industry. As an academic at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), my research mainly focused on environmental analytical chemistry. More specifically, I studied metal and metalloid accumulation in the date palm on a funded project in collaboration with the College of Agriculture at SQU. The date palm is an economically-important tree in the Arabian Gulf. My colleagues and I have also investigated mercury and rare earths in environmental samples. At SQU, my research group studied the microwave-assisted solvent extraction (MASE) of pharmaceuticals from rodent food and tablets. The MASE method can be beneficial to the environment by reducing the consumption of toxic organic solvents. At present, I am working with collaborators in the Middle East on several research projects connected to the chemical analysis of environmental samples.
