He has taught English as a foreign language (EFL) courses to English majors and non-English majors for more than 15 years. Apart from EFL teaching, Dr. Hou has also taught European history and Western intellectual history courses at undergraduate and graduate level. His research focuses on the role of vernacular language in constructing national identity in early modern England and other West European states, as well as content-language integrated learning (CLIL) in Chinese university EFL teaching. His passion for teaching lies in cultivating students’ linguistic, cultural and critical thinking competence through CLIL and Socratic-style seminar teaching.
