个人简介

Dr. Nazrul Islam is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Digital Social Science at the Department of Social Sciences, BNU-HKBU United International College. He is also an International Partner at the Sydney Centre for Healthy Societies, The University of Sydney; and JIRS Fellow, HKBU-UIC. Dr. Islam holds a PhD in Sociology (Medical Anthropology) from the University of Hong Kong, and an MSc in Community Health and Health Management from Heidelberg University in Germany. Over the years Dr. Islam has raised numerous research and conference grants on Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, Global Public Health, and Gender and Sexuality related issues. He has published three edited books, one monograph and many peer-reviewed high-impact journal articles, and book chapters with more than two hundred citations. His research outputs have featured into South China Morning Post, and Asia Pacific Business Review. His articles have been published in many SSCI-Q1&Q2 listed journals including Current Sociology, Health Sociology Review, Social Theory & Health, and Asian Journal of Social Science. His edited book Silk Road to Belt Road: Reinventing the Past and Shaping the Future published by Springer (2019) has been downloaded eighteen thousand times as on March 2022. Dr. Islam has designed the course curriculum/syllabi and taught a range of foundation courses, interdisciplinary courses, and free elective courses for University students related to Sociology, Social Anthropology, Gender studies, Asian studies and Global health. His research area focuses on China, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia and the Philippines. He has held various administrative duties including Associate Director, Program Coordinator, Committee chair and member. Dr. Islam has held visiting positions at the University of British Columbia; The University of Hong Kong; and Ateneo de Manila University. He has received the prestigious German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Fellowship, The United Nations University (UNU) Fellowship; and The University of Hong Kong Postgraduate Studentship. Dr. Islam is honored as Guangdong Provincial High Level Talent (China since 2019), and Global Talent (Australia since 2021).
