个人简介

Professor and Associate Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at BNU-HKBU United International College (UIC). Used to teach in HKBU (10 years) and HKU (20 years), Simon ZHAO was a founding Director of International Center for China Development Studies, HKU, a visiting fellow at MIT and at the University of Washington, an adjunct professor Peking Univ and East China Normal University, and an International Fellow for MIT- and Peking Univ-based Lincoln Institute China Program. He worked with Academia Sinica and the State Planning Commission, PRC, involving in many national key projects in Chinese mainland. He is an urban, regional and global studies specialist with research and teaching interests in the broad areas of urban regional studies, geopolitical and economic development, spatial and global transformation, geography of international trade and finance, and development of international financial centers (IFCs). He is an editorial board member for four international journals and published more than 100 papers in international refereed journals and ISI (SSCI) Citation Journals and more than 200 other academic works, like book chapters and consultative reports etc. Simon Zhao was a Member of the Central Policy Unit, HKSAR Government (Pan-PRD Panel) and provide widely consultancy services to China national and local governments as well as private sector. He co-led a global team for HKSAR RGC Theme-based Research Scheme Project “Enhancing Hong Kong as Leading International Financial Centre”, which is the second largest in HK all social sciences history, and he was a Deputy Convener for HKU Strategic Research Themes China Business and Economics for Project “China’s New Round Urbanization”. Now he is PI, leading a UIC research lab “Greater Bay Area Laboratory for Financial Integration and Green Development”.
