Materialien und Prozesse für elektrochemische Energiespeicher und -wandler

The focus of the research is both the development of improved materials and components, and the fundamental understanding of the functioning of these components for energy storage and conversion.In the field of battery research alternative concepts for lithium ion batteries are developed. For future generations of batteries the focus is on metal air batteries with significantly improved energy density. Within the research on fuel cells (SOFC) and steam electrolysers (SOEC) the main goal is lowering the operating temperature. Cross cutting issues between batteries and fuel cells are centered around the study of efficient electro-catalytic materials for the oxygen reduction and evolution on the basis of transition metal components.
