Dr. Joel Yang is an Associate Professor of the Engineering Product Development (EPD) pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He holds a joint appointment as Senior Scientist III at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) of A*STAR where he co-heads the Plasmonic and Semiconductor Nanostructures Lab. He received his SM (2005) and PhD (2009) degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Joel Yang is a fellow of OSA, and A*STAR Investigator (2010-2018). He has earned several local and international awards, including the MIT Technology Review TR35@Singapore award, and the 2012 Singapore Young Scientist Award. He serves as Associate Editor of Optics Express, Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of ACS Photonics, and Topical Editor of PhotoniX (a Springer journal).

Nano Optics, Nanophotonics, Nanoplasmonics, Plasmonic Color Printing Nanofabrication at sub-10-nm dimensions, Electron-Beam Lithography 3D Nanoprinting, Two-PhHis research interests are in sub-10-nm precision lithography and nanofabrication, plasmonic color printing, and field-enhancements in ultra-small gaps.
