个人简介

Tao grew up in Huaian, Jiangsu province, China. When he was exposed to chemistry in high school, he knew he found his career. Tao studied general chemistry at Nanjing University, China, and then learned fluorescence from Prof. Yun-Bao Jiang at Xiamen University, China. He traveled to Georgia, US, and spent five years in studying peptide self-assembly in Prof. Vincent P. Conticello's lab at Emory University. After finishing his PhD study, Tao went to the west coast, where he started a brand-new exploration in making biomimetic polymers with Pro. Ting Xu at University of California, Berkeley. Now, at Xiamen University, Tao’s group develops strategies to control the composition, shape, and dynamics of synthetic peptide assemblies. They seek to create smart supramolecular machineries that recognize and sense biological signals and events within the nanometer to micrometer size regime.

研究领域

We are a dynamic assembly of chemists, biologists, physicists, and engineers, who are fascinated by how nature derives functions from structures within the nanometer to micrometer size regime. We seek to understand the fundamental rules underlying biomacromolecular recognition, assembly, and function, by designing synthetic biomimetic systems using peptides, nucleic acids, and synthetic polymers. We also approach disease-related biological issues by developing real-time sensing and imaging strategies in order to address challenges in diagnostics and therapeutics. RESEARCH AREAS Controlled multi-component peptide assembly Multivalent cancer cell recognition In situ imaging of biological events
