个人简介
Ian is both Canadian and British and he was born in London, England. After completing his Ph.D., he moved to Germany and then the USA for postdoctoral work. He then joined the Chemistry Department at the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor in 1990. He was promoted to Full Professor in 1995 and became a Canada Research Chair in 2001. After 15 enjoyable years in Canada, he moved back to his Alma Mater, the University of Bristol in England, in 2006 as an EU Marie-Curie Chair. In 2018 he was awarded a Canada 150 Research Chair which enabled his return to Canada and the relocation of his research group to the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island on Canada's west coast. Ian also has a position as a Visiting Professor at Shanghai Jiao-Tong University in China where he cosupervises a small group of students and postdocs.

Our research focuses on the development of new synthetic approaches to functional molecules, polymers and materials. We are interested in the synthesis and applications of chemical species that exist on length scales from 1 nanometer - 100 microns. Our current projects include Catalytic Chemistry with Main Group Substrates, Metal-Containing Polymers (Metallopolymers), and "Living" Crystallization-Driven Self-Assembly.
