个人简介

In 2005, upon completion of an Honours Degree in Genetics from Trinity College Dublin, Dr Murphy was awarded a Health Research Board Ph.D. scholarship in Molecular Medicine and joined the Prostate Molecular Oncology group in the Institute of Molecular Medicine, Trinity College Dublin. The main focus of her Ph.D. was investigating the role of DNA methylation in prostate cancer development, with a hope to identify potential markers of the disease. After completion of her PhD in 2010, she was awarded a Craig Dobbins Newman fellowship in Mental Health Research by University College Dublin, in collaboration with Professor Kevin Malone, based on her scientific proposal to examine how epigenetic mechanisms may contribute to suicide risk. In May 2013, she joined Prof. Mill’s Complex Disease Epigenetics Group, University of Exeter, as a Research Fellow investigating epigenetic changes in depression and other complex diseases. In September 2015 Dr Murphy was appointed as Lecturer (Education and Research). Broad research specialisms Epigenetic/ DNA methylation analysis Gene expression analysis Depression Suicidality Epigenetic changes of immune/inflammatory genes in depression and inflammatory related disorders. Polymorphisms in DNA methyltranserase genes and suicide risk Epigenetic changes associated with prostate cancer Qualifications 2015 - present - PGCAP, University of Exeter 2010 - PhD, Trinity College Dublin 2007 - P.Grad.Dip Statistics, Trinity College Dublin 2005- BA (Honors) Genetics, Trinity College Dublin

研究领域

Dr Murphy is particularly interested in understanding the role of epigenetics (specifically DNA methylation) in depression and suicide. She also has an interest in interactions between inflammatory/immune phenotypes, mental health/psychological stress and the epigenome.
