个人简介
Linda trained as a research bioscientist, and has laboratory research experience in the fields of atherosclerosis and parasitology, specializing in Leishmaniasis (African Sleeping Sickness) for her doctorate. She is also an exhibited artist and musician, with a strong interest in trans-disciplinary research, particularly with respect to the arts and medicine. She currently works at Exeter University Medical School reviewing clinical evidence for health technology assessments, particularly to support the work of NICE. She is also a qualified breastfeeding specialist, with experience in breastfeeding peer support, and a qualified Birth Art Cafe faciliator. She is currently studying to become an internationally qualified lactation consultant.
In 1999, Linda was appointed Research Fellow in Complementary Medicine at the University of Exeter. In 2001, she was awarded an Invention and Innovation award from Nesta (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) to lead a team creating and developing an innovative genre of music based on protein x-ray crystallography data (“Molecular Music”). Out-puts included the radio and TV features, and the installation of a trans-disciplinary interactive educational exhibit (“Listen to Your Body”), which ran successfully for 10 years in Explore, at-bristol’s Science Centre.
Currently, working in collaboration with artist Victoria Shennan and composer Jack Hurst, Linda's Molecular Music translation of bacterial proteins is featured in an exciting permanent soundscape installation which is running in "Invisible You. The Human Microbiome", the Eden Project's new biomedical exhibition. The launch of "Invisible You. The Human Microbiome" on May 21st 2015 was marked by a live performance of "microbial music" at Eden. In a joint musical collaboration between Linda Long and Jack Hurst, the compositions combine melodies obtained from a direct translation of various microbial proteins and samples of microbial RNA sequences.
