个人简介
Janet Heaton is a sociologist and applied health researcher. She has worked as a researcher in the NHS, and at the University of Leeds (Nuffield Institute for Health) and University of York (Social Policy Research Unit), before moving to Exeter in 2010. Janet has a special interest in the secondary analysis of qualitative data. She has published several articles and a book on the topic, called: Reworking Qualitative Data (2004, Sage).
At Exeter, I am currently a Research Fellow with expertise in qualitative research methods, providing methodological support to various projects undertaken within PenCLAHRC. I previously worked on the internal evaluation of the pilot phase of PenCLAHRC, led by Prof Nicky Britten. The evaluation used realist methods of evaluation to examine whether and where the intended benefits of collaborative working between academics and the healthcare community, and increased capacity for doing applied health research in the south west, were realised, and what it was about the programme that enabled this. This work is currently being written up for publication.
In 2010-12 Janet also undertook an ESRC-funded secondary analysis of interview data collected by the Health Experiences Research Group (HERG) at the University of Oxford for the www.HealthTalk.org website. The study examined young adults’ experiences of growing up with a chronic illness and, in particular, their sense of mastery of their condition. Further information on the project is available on the study website.
