研究领域

William has a diverse background in biological sciences including marine biology, aquatic ecology, microbial ecology and clinical microbiology and has worked with mathematicians, psychologists, environmental chemists, clinicians, hydrologists and mineralogists amongst others. Multidisciplinary approaches to solving problems at the interface of microbial ecology and clinical science has been fundamental to research efforts for the last decade. In 2011 WG moved from the University of Warwick to the University of Exeter Medical School as Senior Lecturer in the European Centre for Environment and Human Health. Current work focuses the evolution and dissemination of antibiotic resistance in the natural and farmed environments. He has been invited to speak on antimicrobial resistance in the environment by the Pasteur Institute, the Canadian Society of Microbiologists, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the German Environment Agency and the UK government (Govtoday AMR conference). WG recently gave written evidence to the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology enquiry on AMR and was invited to a round-table meeting on AMR chaired by Dame Sally Davies. WG has published on antimicrobial resistance in the Lancet ID, ISME Journal, Antibiotic Agents and Chemotherapy, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Veterinary Microbiology, International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, Environmental Health Perspectives, Applied and Environmental Microbiology and Clinical Infectious Diseases.
