Dr Philip Evans is a part-time GP in Exeter and Senior Partner in St Leonard's Practice. He was an RCGP Research Training Fellow from 1988-1990. He has an interest in the management of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in primary care with a particular interest in the prevention of diabetes through the early diagnosis and management of pre-diabetes and also cardiovascular disease in primary care. He was the principal investigator on the WAKEUP study, funded by Diabetes UK and is also the lead researcher for St Leonard's Research Practice, which is a Research General Practice, with numerous publications. Other research interests include the metabolic syndrome and the importance of family history of cardiovascular disease in primary care. He is an Associate Professor of General Practice and Primary Care in the University of Exeter Medical School and the National Specialty Lead for Primary Care within the NIHR Clinical Research Network. He has also recently been appointed as the NIHR CRN National Cluster Co-Lead and still has a local role as Clinical Research Lead for Division 5.
