研究领域
My research interests cover a broad range of topics in environmental and social sciences, united by a methodological toolkit from mathematics, network science and complex systems.
Recent work has focused on analysis of novel datasets from online communication, using machine learning and network theory to understand online opinion dynamics around politics and climate change, and to create "social sensor" platforms for natural hazards. Previously I have developed evolutionary simulation models for cognitive science, microbial ecology, and Earth system science. My research has been funded by ESRC, EPSRC, Leverhulme Trust and commercial partners.
I lead a research team (unofficially) called the "Networks, Data and Complex Systems" group. We eat cake in the Laver Building on Thursday afternoons.
My teaching activities currently centre on quantitative skills for natural bioscientists, but I also supervise projects in computer science and mathematics.
