I joined the Centre for Sports & Exercise Science within the Department of Biological Sciences in September 1999. I had spent the previous 13 years as postgraduate student and lecturer in both The Department of Psychology and Continuing and Community Education at Goldsmiths College. Prior to my Undergraduate degree at NELP, I was a Psychiatric Nurse. Teaching I teach undergraduate and postgraduate sport and exercise psychology and post graduate statistics courses in the Centre for Sports & Exercise Science. Wider Involvement I have presented at numerous international conferences. I have given presentations and Lectures at many local schools and have made numerous guest appearances on local and national radio. I was the University of Essex 2009 nominee for the Times Higher Serendipity award. I'm a founder member of the division of sport and exercise science, British Psychological Society. I was a contributor to the 2006 Royal Society Summer Science fair. The ‘Shedding the light on the human body’ project was collaborative work highlighting the research on Near Infrared Spectroscopy of brain and muscle at UCL and Essex. I was Commissioned to write Sport and Exercise Science: an introduction, Sewell, Watkins and Griffin published in May 2005 London Hodder. currently editing the 3rd edition. I'm a Reviewer for Times Higher Educational Supplement., JAGS, BMJ I have worked as a consultant on various health service and public health projects including smoking cessation, obesity, mental health and well being. I am a practitioner psychologist with Health Professions Council. Throughout my time at Essex I have worked with athletes as a sport psychologist, including professional footballers, rowers, transatlantic rowers, 6 Olympic athletes (including Para-Olympians), ultra-distance runners, tri-athletes, swimmers, gymnasts, a national level rifle shooter, a national level dressage rider and latterly a national level Kart team Own Sporting interests I am of course interested all sport but my main passion was as a competitor is motorcycle racing particularly land speed racing. I represented my country at Bonneville speed week in 2008 and 2009. I'm now a student pilot
