研究领域

My research area focuses on spatio- temporal dynamics and community assemblages in marine systems. Specific areas include: Community ecology and ecosystem functioning of coral reefs Ecology of tropical sponges Reef carbonate processes Biological calcification Reef taphonomy More recently my research focusses on working with partners to bridge the gap between science and policy for effective conservation management. As examples of this work, recent research examined carbonate budgets on coral reefs (Chiara Franco PhD, 2014), but from a novel perspective of modelling these interactions using Bayesian methods. The end product is a model with value in ground truthing empirical data, making it a useful addition to the reef management tool box. I am also interested in introducing scientific rigour into biodiversity offsetting, with development of a metric that can provide scientifically derived evidence to guide policy makers towards an effective system that will have maximum positive benefit for wildlife and habitats. The most recent project form this reseach area involves native oyster restoration techniques in the Blackwater Estuary. and understanding the ecological processes that are determining the fate of the native oyster (Ostra edulis).
