研究领域
Kellie’s PhD developed and evaluated ‘highly personalised’ foot orthoses for patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) based on the individual’s 3-D gait and plantar pressure results. Personalised orthoses were created to address key pathomechanical features of foot conditions derived from RA that may be structural or functional in nature. These were compared for biomechanical and patient reported outcomes to current ‘state of-the-art’ orthoses (standard orthoses). The standard orthoses was prescribed using biomechanical assessment techniques frequently used in clinical practice and issued through a commercial company.
This approach to foot care aimed to exploit the early use of personalised foot orthoses in a small window of opportunity to effectively stabilise and protect foot joints during periods of potentially destructive active disease. Main study results have been published in Arthritis Care and Research.
Kellie is currently completing post doctoral research 2 days a week in collaboration with Glasgow Caledonian University. This is a two year study which received funding of £206,000 from the W.M Scholl fund. The study aims to evaluate the clinical and cost effectiveness of prefabricated versus customised orthoses in early Rheumatoid Arthritis patients. This study started in June 2015.
