I investigate how communities are structured in fragmented landscapes of tropical regions. Current research addresses the following questions: which assembly rules are responsible for structuring communities in fragmented landscapes which traits are the best predictors of species extinction how community disassembly caused by habitat disturbance affects functional diversity which species are more important to ecosystem functioning thresholds and decline of functional diversity how the loss of functional diversity affects nutrient cycling
