We work on the structural dynamics of light sensitive proteins, using primarily ultrafast pump-probe techniques. Ultrafast crystallography and ultrafast spectroscopy are the main experimental techniques used. The research focuses on the cascading structural transformations that occur on multiple time scales ranging from femtoseconds to much longer, including structural rearrangements of meta-stable intermediates. We investigate reaction dynamics in light sensitive systems, including Fluorescent Proteins, Photosynthesis, and photoreceptor proteins such as Phytochromes and the Photoactive Yellow Protein
