My work at Imperial College London has focused on how a novel type of extrasynaptic GABA-A receptor modifies neuronal activity. It is becoming clear that disruptions in network dynamics associated with schizophrenia, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease may well involve alterations in these extrasynaptic GABA-A receptors and our next big challenge is to translate these important findings into novel treatments.
