My research revolves around the development of novel materials and membranes, and their application in energy and environmental related technologies. Most recently I have worked on the use of metal organic frameworks, zeolitic imidazolate frameworks, and porous aromatic frameworks as novel gas sorbents and as components of composite membrane systems. In collaboration with colleagues at the CSIRO in Australia, we developed a novel light-swing gas sorption process based on light-responsive metal organic framework materials. I have worked for several years on membrane-based desalination technologies including electrodialysis and capacitive deionisation, and remain interested in developing novel desalination and water treatment technologies. Energy conversion and storage technologies that utilise membranes is the final core area of research expertise, including low temperature fuel cells and high temperature fuel cells using carbon as the fuel.
