研究领域

My principal area of research is to develop an improved fundamental understanding of the role of surface properties in particle engineering. Research activities include; i) studying the impact of particle engineering unit operations on surface properties (eg. crystallisation, milling); (ii) effects of particle properties on unit operations (eg granuation, drying); (iii) to employ modeling tools for the predictions and control of these operations; and (iv) the development of a gas chromatographic characterisation (inverse gas chromatography, IGC) methodology to determine surface energetic of powders. The key hypothesis here is that the interface may be very important in governing a range of interactions occurring at the solid-solid, solid-liquid, solid-vapour phases. Knowledge of surface properties and particle properties (eg. shape, size, porosity) can lead to the engineering of optimised particles for improved formulation and product performance including better powder processing and particle handling. Other areas of our research interests include: 1. Wetting, contact angles and surface energetics; 2. Physico-chemical properties characterisation of solids; and 3. Processing (milling, spray/freeze-drying) of organic solids (pharmaceuticals and proteins).
