个人简介

Holger G Krapp obtained his Diploma in Biology (Neurobiology) from the University of Tübingen, Germany, in 1992. In 1995 he was awarded the Dr rer nat (PhD) degree for studying the neuronal mechanisms of optic flow processing at the Max-Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Tübingen, Germany. During his first postdoctoral position at the Max-Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics he continued working on theoretical aspects and the neuronal basis of self-motion estimation. In 1996 he became postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA, working on the biophysical mechanism of neuronal multiplication in the context of visually guided behaviour. From 1997 he spent three years as a research fellow at Bielefeld University, Germany, continuing his work on adaptations to optic flow processing in the visual system. In 2000 he commenced a position as a temporary lecturer in Sensory Neuroscience in the Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge, UK, investigating fundamental principles underlying the sensory control of behaviour. He was appointed as a senior lecturer in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College in October 2005.

研究领域

Research in my lab aims at understanding biological design principles in sensorimotor control. We pursue an integrative approach on comparatively simple insect model systems to discover fundamental principles of task-specific sensory integration, multisensor fusion, and sensorimotor transformation. The range of methods applied in the lab includes electrophysiological techniques, quantitative behavioural measurements, and computational modeling. More recently I became particularly interested in interdisciplinary collaborations to exploit the potential of biological principles for the engineering design of artificial sensorimotor control systems. My lab at Imperial College and partly together with my national as well as international collaborators we work on research topics including: Design, adaptability, and plasticity of sensorimotor transformations in flying insects. The neural basis of optic flow processing and self-motion estimation for inner-loop reflexes such as gaze stabilization and flight control in insects. State-dependent processing of sensory information in flying insects. Dynamic range fractioning of multisensory control in insects. Forward models (efference copy) in fly motor control. The neuronal mechanisms underlying collision avoidance and escape behaviour in locusts. The development of new micro-recording probes to set up brain-machine interfaces.
