I am a proud to be a pharmacist and after qualifying from the University of Nottingham with first class honours, I have worked in many different roles before deciding to move into teaching of pharmacy full time. I started my career in hospital pharmacy and after an initial period experiencing all the different services, I spent time in Procurement of pharmaceuticals, worked as a Quality Control Pharmacist, managed Aseptic services and worked as part of a specialist team in the bulk manufacture of pharmaceuticals. Have many years’ experience of providing clinical services and of developing And managing patient services as well as leading a team of pharmacists, technicians and other staff. My clinical roles in hospital pharmacy were concentrated in neonatal services and in respiratory medicine, but like all pharmacists I have been involved with patients of all types. I completed a Master of Laws degree from the University of Wales to support my interest in the Law relating to medicines and medical practice. I moved into primary care and provided practice based pharmacy services for teams of GPs and this further developed into working as a prescribing advisor for a Health Authority, a PCG and then as Head of Medicines Management for a local PCT where I managed the prescribing budget, prescribing quality and provided guidance and educational support to prescribers . I completed a Diploma in prescribing management at Leeds University and then joined the team in an Academic Practice Unit to deliver postgraduate courses in pharmacy. I have always enjoyed teaching and after moving to the University of Huddersfield to develop the new MPharm I completed a postgraduate teaching qualification at Huddersfield to enable me to become a Fellow of the HEA. The Huddersfield MPharm is a passion of mine and I am committed to its success. I have completed a PhD which researched the links between prescribing and health inequalities and considered future roles for pharmacists in delivering health education. This is an area of continued interest for ongoing research. I developed the Foundation Degree in Medicines Management and Pharmacy Services for pharmacy technicians which has been effective in supporting service development within the NHS and I am currently leading the new CPD certificate which is fully supported by the Strategic Health Authority and will allow more pharmacy technicians to benefit from the development that University course facilitates. I am proud to have supported pharmacy technicians to reach their potential and look forward to our young pharmacists graduating and moving into practice.
