Amie studied for her Master of Pharmacy degree at Cardiff University, after which she completed her pre-registration training in the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. During this time she was an active (and later executive) member of the British Pharmaceutical Students' Association, taking an active interest in both European and international pharmacy student affairs along with quality improvement in healthcare and education. After qualifying as a pharmacist, Amie moved to Sheffield where she worked as a resident hospital pharmacist (at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and completed her postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy. Amie has worked in several specialities, including cardiology, acute medicine and infectious diseases and has experience in providing a variety of pharmaceutical services, including sterile production and medicines information. She joined the University in 2015 as a senior lecturer in pharmacy practice and achieved Fellow status of the HEA in 2016. Amie's current role includes working in a research capacity with both the University and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (looking at issues around insulin use in diabetic patients) alongside leading a final year MPharm module in Applied Therapeutics, which aims to help students further develop the clinical knowledge and skills to optimise medicines use in individual patients. She is currently working towards her MA in Education as well as a PhD by publication. Her interests include Interprofessional Education and Medicines Optimisation and Safety.
