个人简介

My first degree was in Applied Biology at the University of Hatfield I then went on to do a PhD at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne researching the mechanism of novel epithelial chloride channel blockers. I then worked at the University of Manchester in the Departments of Medicine and Pharmacy investigating intestinal drug absorption using in vitro models. After that I moved to Dundee University where my main research interest was ion transport across the lung epithelia. I returned to work in the Department of Pharmacy at Manchester and continued my interest in intestinal drug absorption and the role of P-glycoprotein. Most recently I have worked in the Department of Translational Medicine in Manchester investigating intestinal inflammation and the importance of the interaction between P-glycoprotein and the enteric micro-flora. I was appointed as a Lecturer in Biological Sciences at Huddersfield in 2008 my main teaching is Cellular and Molecular Biology to MPharm students.

研究领域

I have two major areas of research, firstly an ongoing interest in the development of more predictive in vitro models of intestinal drug absorption particularly in the area of controlled release preparations and the potential modifying role of intestinal transport proteins. In addition I also conduct research in the area of intestinal inflammation particularly the interaction of the gut epithelial cells with the normal enteric microflora. This is tightly regulated in health but can be the source of significant pathology in susceptible individuals leading to chronic inflammatory conditions such as Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis. My work tries to understand at a molecular level the mechanisms that initiate the inflammatory response in intestinal epithelial cells.
