Mr. Gang Tan is a faculty of Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at University of Wyoming. His research interests are on energy efficiency technologies in buildings, thermal energy systems, indoor built environment, and building material development. Dr. Tan received his Ph.D. degree focusing on building technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005. Prior to MIT, he studied thermal engineering in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China with a MS in 2001 and BS in 1998. Dr. Tan has published or presented 37 papers in international journals and conferences. Working as a PI or Co-PI, his current research projects include (1) development of green building and construction materials using fly ash and Trona ore (UW SER funded); (2) radiative cooling for thermo-electric power plant and building application (DOE ARPA-E funded); (3) synergized transformational solar chemical looping and photo-ultrasonic biomass refinery (NSF EPSCoR funded); (4) numerical modeling of transport phenomena in porous media (UW Energy GA funded); and (5) thermal-hydro-mechanical interaction for geothermal energy and wellbore stability study (CAES funded). His previous research work includes phase change material, thermoelectric cooling system, prediction of under floor air distribution (UFAD) using zonal model, and providing real-time detailed indoor environmental information using Proper Orthogonal Decomposition and Linear Stochastic Estimate (POD-LSE) technique. Before joining the University of Wyoming, Dr. Tan worked as a consultant in energy efficiency for several years. He has extensive expertise on market assessment, program implementation, and evaluation, measurement and verification (EM&V) of energy efficiency programs, as well as field work such as energy audits and building retro-commissioning.
