个人简介
Dr. Patmore obtained a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Bath in 1999, which was followed by a PhD from the same institution in 2002. His graduate research was supervised by Dr Andrew Weller and involved incorporating weakly coordinating anions into transition metal catalysts to improve their performance. In 2002 he moved to The Ohio State University, USA, for post-doctoral studies with Prof Malcolm Chisholm on electron transfer between metal-metal quadruply bonded compounds. In 2005, he moved back to the UK with a Ramsay Memorial Research Fellowship that was hosted by the University of Sheffield, and in 2006 he was awarded a prestigious Royal Society University Research Fellowship at Sheffield. In 2013 he moved to the University of Huddersfield, and is currently a Royal Society University Research Fellow and a member of the Supramolecular and Structural Chemistry Research Group.
研究领域
My research focuses on metal-metal multiply bonded complexes, which typically consist of a dimetal core surrounded by four bridging ligands in a “paddlewheel” arrangement. The dimetal core is redox active, and these compounds have a unique electronic structure that can result in interesting photophysical and magnetic properties. My research exploits these features to develop compounds that address fundamental scientific concepts, such as the nature of chemical bonding and electron transfer mechanisms, and apply them to develop useful compounds for application in a diverse range of fields such as functional materials, molecular electronics and small molecule activation. In order to fully characterise our compounds we employ a variety of analytical (ie. MALDI-TOF MS, electrochemistry, X-ray diffraction), spectroscopic (ie. IR, UV/vis and NMR) and theoretical (DFT) techniques.
