个人简介

Jeremy Hopwood is a lecturer in Science Communication at the University of Huddersfield. He manages the secondary school and sixth form outreach programme for Chemistry, Forensics, Pharmacy, Biological Sciences and Nutrition subject areas. The outreach programme includes subject specific workshops, science competitions, science fairs, E-mentoring, and large high profile such as the 2009 Darwin day and the 2008 world record for the longest model of DNA. In 2010, he will be managing the UK and Irish Finals of the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools Analysts Competition, to be held at the University. Jeremy also organises science workshops for other EU countries. In Dec 2009, he organised a two day forensics visit for sixth formers of the Holbein Gymnasium , Augsburg, Germany. Jeremy has worked on the HEFCE Widening Participation programme 'Chemistry the Next Generation' and continues to work with schools whose students come from social groups that are under-represented at university. Jeremy regularly collaborates with other education providers, one of which is the National Coal Mining Museum of England. The University and the Museum run a series of annual workshops for 14 - 17 year olds on Acid Mine Drainage a type of pollution that occurs at the disused coal mine . Jeremy is a lecturer in Chemistry and is course leader of the chemical and physical principles module for first year biology students (approximately 100 students). In addition, he runs final year research projects on acid mine drainage and on lead metal dissolution in tap water. Jeremy's research areas include water chemistry, crystal growth and the design/evaluation of science outreach events. He is currently undertaking research for a major UK water utility and later this year will be supervising a placement student who will be working on 'science event' evaluation. Education 2002 Manchester Metropolitan University PGCE with QTS 1996 University of Bath PhD in Chemistry 1989 University of Salford BSc in Applied Chemistry, 2:1.
