个人简介

I am responsible for recruitment to and management of the Science Extended Degree. This course is designed for inappropriately qualified students to gain access to a wide range of science based degrees. We also send successful students to health related courses at this and other institutions. As a former mature student I recognise the benefits participation in Higher Education can bring and want others to gain the same benefits I have received. I like to give people the opportunity to improve their qualifications but recognise that academic standards have to be maintained. I enjoy teaching a range of subjects, mostly related to environmental science. This subject area is multi-disciplinary and draws on a range of skills. Specific case studies can be used to illustrate the inter-relationships between the chemistry and biology.

研究领域

I am currently managing a HEFCE funded project on waste management. This employer engagement exercise has led to the development of a Diploma in Waste & Resource Management. It is very much employer led and focused on adding value through training. This work has created potential opportunities to work with employers and practitioners on improving waste management activities. I have particular interest in adoption of technological and managerial solutions to waste problems. If we are to achieve sustainable waste management then creative and pragmatic solutions need to be adopted. Unfortunately investment cycles and PFI contracts may inhibit adoption of the latest technology but managerial changes can be cost effective in improving environmental performance. This is an area I am particularly interested in. European legislation has been the driving force behind many of our environmental improvements within the UK. Non EU countries may benefit from examining how the UK has responded to these challenges and I would welcome the opportunity to work with interested parties on this subject.
