The laboratory of Dr. Yang Liu integrates multidisciplinary approaches of engineering, chemistry, physics and biology for precision medicine. We exploit the power of light and develops a suite of imaging technologies and quantitative analysis tools including super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, single-molecule detection, quantitative phase microscopy, optical coherence microscopy, light-sheet microscopy and machine learning methods. We improve the imaging throughput and robustness, while making it simpler, cheaper and easier to use. We apply these state-of-the-art imaging tools to map molecular-scale chromatin organization and epigenomic signatures in their original spatial context on patient-derived samples such as tissue, blood, sputum and organoid. We apply them to improve personalized cancer detection and prevention in colon, lung, pancreas and prostate as well as our understanding of tissue microenvironment in inflammatory bowel diseases.
