Dimas performed his PhD studies at the Max-Planck Institute for Metals Research (Germany) and obtained the degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2007. Thereafter he has worked at the National Institute for Materials Science (Japan), Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC, Spain), Molecular Foundry of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (USA), University of California at Berkeley (USA) and Centro de Fisica de Materiales (Spain). He is currently an Ikerbasque Research Professor at DIPC.

Our scientific efforts are focused mainly on physico-chemical phenomena ocurring in organic materials, including thin-film growth, self-assembly, interface electronics and, lately most of all, chemical reactions. In particular the surface-supported synthesis of functional materials from molecular precursors under ultra-high-vacuum is the true origin of this laboratory and its most pursued research line. However, we also maintain our interest in non-covalently bonded structures, their assembly and properties, as for example with molecular blends. In general, a multi-technique surface science approach is applied. The heart of the lab is a low-temperature scanning probe microscope (LT-SPM), determining our particular emphasis on scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy. In addition, electron spectroscopies are also applied at synchrotron light sources.
